What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Valkyries Make History With 18th Win 😲

The Golden State Valkyries keep smashing expectations. This weekend, they picked up their 18th win of the season, the most ever for a WNBA expansion team in its first year. The previous record was 17 wins by the Detroit Shock back in 1998. (Golden State Valkyries)

WHY IT MATTERS: Golden State’s success proves what fans have said for years: there’s enough elite talent to fuel more teams. Without a household “star,” the Valkyries are winning as a collective while putting themselves firmly in the playoff hunt. Not bad for a team most preseason polls ranked dead last.

🗳️ How many wins will the Valkyries end the season with?

The Valks are currently 18-16, with 10 regular season games left.

2. Toronto Tempo To Play Two Games in Vancouver 🤝

Canada’s new WNBA team is already sharing the love. The new Toronto Tempo franchise announced it will play two games of its 2026 inaugural season in Vancouver. (Yahoo Sports)

WHY IT MATTERS: Friday’s Storm vs. Dream matchup in Vancouver drew a sellout crowd of nearly 16,000 fans at Rogers Arena, proof that the city is hungry for pro women’s hoops. The WNBA has been testing Canadian markets for years, and while Toronto is the first expansion team north of the border, Vancouver might just be lining itself up as next in line.

3. Fever Rally From 21 Down in Franchise-Record Comeback 🔥

The Indiana Fever pulled off their largest comeback in franchise history, storming back from 21 down to beat the Sun in overtime. Kelsey Mitchell powered the rally with 38 points (34 of them in the second half). (Indiana Fever)

WHY IT MATTERS: This was more than a win for Indiana—it felt like a turning point. The Fever were already down big when Sophie Cunningham left with a knee injury, but Mitchell, Aliyah Boston (14 pts, 13 boards), and new arrival Odyssey Sims (19 pts, 7 assists) sparked what looked like a season-saving performance. Coach Stephanie White was emotional afterward, celebrating their resiliency.
