👋 Good morning and Happy Thursday.
Earlier this week we shared news about the House v. NCAA settlement, which included backpay for former athletes and allowed schools to start paying athletes directly. Now, a group of women’s sports athletes is filing an appeal, arguing the deal violates Title IX gender equity protections. We'll keep you posted as this develops.
What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Allie Quigley to Have Her Jersey Retired by the Sky 🙌
Just one day after announcing her retirement, the Sky are making it official too. On July 9, 2025, Allie Quigley’s No. 14 jersey will be retired in a ceremony before Chicago’s home game against the Dallas Wings. (Chicago Sky)
WHY IT MATTERS: Mark your calendars for July 9. Quigley is one of the most beloved players in franchise history, and now she’ll be the first player in Sky history to have her jersey raised to the rafters.
She spent 10 seasons with Chicago (2013–22), helped deliver the team’s first-ever championship in 2021, and was the face of the franchise for over a decade. Her retirement ceremony will feature special guests, a video tribute, and an on-court celebration.
👀 P.S. Candace Parker’s Sky jersey retirement is coming too—set for August 25.

2. WNBA All-Star Voting Opens Today 🗳️
All-Star voting for the 2025 WNBA season opens today at 2 PM ET and runs through June 28. You can vote daily on WNBA.com or the WNBA App to help select this year’s All-Star starters. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: The All-Star Game is one of the W’s biggest events of the season, and fans get a say in who makes it. All-Star selection depends on player scores, which are calculated using a weighted average of fan, player, and media votes.
This year’s game takes place on Friday, July 18, so get your picks in, and come back daily to vote again.

3. WNBA Tops Online Search Growth 🥇
According to the Global Sports Properties 2025 SportOnSocial report, the WNBA is now the top sports property in the world when it comes to online search growth.
The league saw a 322% global increase in online searches in 2024, soaring from 9th place last year to 1st. (Redtorch)
WHY IT MATTERS: This is yet another sign of the W’s rising global momentum. The report reflects a shift in audience engagement with the league, thanks to record-breaking media coverage, commercial investment, and player-driven storytelling. As an example of player-driven storytelling, the study revealed that a surge in search volume for athletes Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin contributed to the overall league search growth.

Undefeated No More: The Seattle Storm handed the Minnesota Lynx their first loss of the season last night. That leaves the New York Liberty as the league’s only remaining undefeated team.
Back and Balling: In her first game back from concussion protocol and an illness, Paige Bueckers dropped a career-high 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting—even as the Wings came up short against the Mercury.
