What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Allie Quigley Makes Her Retirement Official 🫡

WNBA sharpshooter Allie Quigley officially announced her retirement Tuesday via a heartfelt essay in The Players’ Tribune. It’s been three years since Quigley last played in a WNBA game—but now it’s official. (ESPN)

WHY IT MATTERS: Quigley will go down as one of the greatest shooters in WNBA history. Over her 14-year career, she was a three-time All-Star, four-time 3-point contest champion, and a 2021 WNBA champion with the Chicago Sky. She also earned two Sixth Player of the Year honors and shot a career 39.4% from deep, averaging 10.9 points per game.

Until just last month, she was the Sky’s all-time leading scorer—surpassed only by her longtime teammate and wife, Courtney Vandersloot.

2. Mitchell and Collier Named WNBA Players of the Week 👏

Kelsey Mitchell (Indiana Fever) and Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx) were named the WNBA’s Players of the Week for Week 3. (WNBA)

WHY IT MATTERS: Mitchell powered the Fever to a 2–0 week, averaging 20.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists—earning her first weekly honor of the season. Collier also led her squad to an undefeated week, putting up 23 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. It’s her second Player of the Week nod in just three weeks of play.

3. ESPN’s WNBA Power Rankings Shuffle the Middle 👀

After nearly a month of play, ESPN just dropped their latest WNBA power rankings—and while the top and bottom hold steady, the middle is where things get interesting.

  • Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty stay locked in at the top.

  • Dallas Wings hold the last spot.

  • Seattle Storm jumps to #3 in a major leap.

WHY IT MATTERS: The season is still young, but patterns are starting to take shape. The Lynx and Liberty have emerged as early favorites, but the race for those three through eight playoff spots is wide open. With about 10 teams in the mix, we’re in for a tight, wild, and fun ride to the finish.

OVERTIME ⏱️

  • She’s Back!: After missing four games, Paige Bueckers is “good to go” and won’t be on a minutes restriction Wednesday when the Wings face the Mercury in Phoenix.

  • Three-peat Honor: Angel Reese has been named BET Sportswoman of the Year for the third year in a row.

  • Bay Area Buzz: San Francisco’s first women’s sports bar, Rikki’s Bar, opens its doors today.
