What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. The Playoff Teams Are Locked - Seattle Clinches 🔒
With their nail-biting 74–73 win over Golden State on Tuesday night, the Seattle Storm clinched the final postseason berth, securing the 8th and final spot in the 2025 WNBA Playoffs. (Seattle Storm)
WHY IT MATTERS: This marks the Storm’s 4th playoff appearance in five years under coach Noelle Quinn. Their spot is secure, but the seeding race isn’t over yet. Minnesota has locked the top seed and New York is set at No. 5, while the rest of the field will spend the final games jockeying for the best possible Round 1 matchups.
🗳️With all 8 playoff teams now set, should coaches rest their stars for the final two days of the regular season? |

2. WNBA Attendance Tops 3 Million 🎟️
The WNBA hit a major milestone last weekend, surpassing 3 million attendees during the regular season. The previous record was 2.36 million attendees, set in 2002. (Front Office Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: 2025 has proven to be a huge year of growth for the league, despite injuries sidelining star players throughout the season. What’s particular impressive is that four teams (Dallas, Washington, Atlanta, Connecticut) play in arenas with 10,000 seats or fewer. Fans keep showing up, and the league is also on pace to break its single-game attendance average record.

3. End-of-Year Award Voting Is Underway ✨
With the regular season wrapping up, voting has officially begun for the WNBA’s major end-of-year awards: Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, Sixth Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year. A panel of select national and local media members cast the ballots. (USA Today)
WHY IT MATTERS: Players earn bonus money for each award, and it etches their name in the history books as one of the best in the game. The race for the most coveted award —MVP—is one of the tightest in recent memory. Three-time winner A’ja Wilson is among the frontrunners, and if she takes it, she would become the first player in WNBA history to win four MVPs.
The league hasn’t announced award reveal dates yet, but they’re expected in late September.
