What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. UConn and Texas Are Pulling Away 🏀

UConn and Texas continue to separate themselves from the rest of the field, making it increasingly clear that this season has defined front-runners. (Swish Appeal)

WHY IT MATTERS: This season may not have as much parity as hoped. UConn (10–0) has rolled through ranked competition with authority, including a blowout win over USC and additional victories against Louisville and Michigan. Texas (12–0) has been just as dominant (if not more so), stacking five ranked wins, highlighted by takedowns of then-No. 2 South Carolina, No. 3 UCLA, and a 35-point dismantling of No. 13 Baylor. Right now, it feels like everyone else is chasing these two.

2. A New Development Model Emerges in WNBA CBA Talks 🤝

The WNBPA’s latest CBA proposal includes a new developmental system aimed at creating opportunities for players who don’t make final WNBA rosters. It’s an idea that hasn’t previously been part of negotiations. (SB Nation)

WHY IT MATTERS: WNBA roster spots are scarce, and talented players are cut every year simply because there isn’t enough room. A development model could help the league hold onto talent and offer more stability for players. But it’s also an expensive ask, especially with existing options like Athletes Unlimited and overseas leagues already filling part of that gap.

3. Olivia Miles Goes Back-to-Back 🎯

TCU guard Olivia Miles delivered back-to-back triple-doubles, finishing with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in Sunday’s win over Jacksonville. The stat line nearly mirrored her performance earlier in the week against UTEP. (TCU)

WHY IT MATTERS: New team, same impact. Miles now has eight career triple-doubles and became the first Big 12 player to post them in consecutive games. Her smooth transition from Notre Dame to TCU is a reminder of just how special her feel for the game is, and we’re excited to see where she lands in the next WNBA Draft.
