What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. A’ja Wilson Runs Away With 2025 MVP Award 🏃🏾♀️➡️
It’s official: A’ja Wilson is the 2025 WNBA MVP. She pulled in 51 of 72 first-place votes from the national media panel. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: Wilson just became the first player in league history to win four MVP awards. She averaged 23.4 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 2.3 BPG while leading the Aces to the No. 2 seed and a 17-game win streak. Add in her third Defensive Player of the Year title announced last week, and it’s undeniable that we’re witnessing one of the greatest in her prime.

2. Fever Upset Aces, Lynx Too Much for Mercury 🏀
WNBA semifinal action tipped off Sunday with two statement wins. The Fever spoiled the MVP party on Sunday, knocking off the Aces on their home floor 89-73. Meanwhile, the Lynx battled back in the fourth quarter to beat the Mercury, 82-69. Both Indiana and the Minnesota now lead their series 1-0. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: Round 2 is a best-of-five series with a 2-2-1 format, so there is little room for error. Dropping Game 1 at home is a big blow for the Aces, who risk losing their home-court edge. The teams face off again in Game 2 on Tuesday.
One note on key personnel: The Lynx are without defensive stopper DiJonai Carrington, who is out for the season with a left foot injury.

3. Naz Hillmon Named Sixth Player of the Year 🤝
The Dream may be out of the postseason, but there’s reason to celebrate: Naz Hillmon has been named the 2025 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: Hillmon’s impact was huge off the bench. Atlanta went 5-0 when she scored 15+ points, and she delivered career highs across the board—averaging 8.6 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 2.4 APG—while helping the Dream finish with a No. 3 ranking. It’s her first Sixth Player award and the first in Dream history.
