What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. ASU Is Off to Its Best Start Ever 🔥
Arizona State is 10–0 for the first time in program history. The Sun Devils beat San Francisco on Saturday to break a 33‑year‑old record and continue their undefeated run under first‑year head coach Molly Miller. (Sun Devils Athletics)
WHY IT MATTERS: Miller arrived from Grand Canyon University, where she led the mid-major program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance. She was one of the most sought‑after hires last offseason, and we’re already seeing why. She’s building a strong foundation in Tempe and setting the team up for a confident jump into Big 12 Conference play.

2. UConn Retires Sue Bird’s Jersey 🎉
UConn raised Sue Bird’s No. 10 to the rafters on Sunday, joining Rebecca Lobo (50) and Swin Cash (32) as the only players in program history with retired numbers. (UConn)
WHY IT MATTERS: Bird’s college résumé is almost impossible to replicate: 2x NCAA Champion, 3x Nancy Lieberman Award winner, 2002 Naismith Player of the Year, the program’s all‑time leader in 3‑point percentage (.459), and UConn’s first‑ever No. 1 WNBA Draft pick.
While UConn has produced a long line of stars, jersey retirement is reserved only for those who enter the Naismith Hall of Fame. With Bird’s induction earlier this year, UConn has now cemented her college legacy into the rafters, reminding all that she was the best of the best.

3. Another Big Addition to Project B 📣
New York Liberty forward Leonie Fiebich has signed with Project B, joining WNBA teammate Jonquel Jones and bringing the international league’s current list of committed players to 11. (Sports Illustrated)
WHY IT MATTERS: The talent pool keeps getting stronger. All but one of the 11 players signed so far have WNBA experience, as Project B attempts to position itself as a legitimate offseason destination for established pros. As more WNBA talent joins, the more influential this league becomes on the current WNBA CBA negotiations. If the WNBA demands stronger exclusivity commitments or a longer schedule, players will face tough decisions choosing one league over the other.
