What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Caitlin Clark Drops 32 in Return, Hands Liberty First Loss 🤯
After missing five games with a quad injury, Caitlin Clark came back with a statement. In just 31 minutes, she put up 32 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds, leading the Indiana Fever to a 102–88 win over the previously undefeated New York Liberty. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: The Fever didn’t look like themselves without Clark—and with her and Sophie Cunningham back, they looked like a completely different team. Indiana dropped a season-high 102 points, and looked back to their championship contender form.
For the Liberty, it was inevitable that they would lose at some point. Yes, they were missing Jonquel Jones and Leonie Fiebich, but the Fever came in with momentum and handed New York their first loss of the season.

2. ESPN Ranks Top 25 High School Players Across All Classes 👀
ESPN just released a new ranking of the top 25 high school girls’ basketball players, and this time they’re doing it across all classes—2026, 2027, and 2028. The list highlights the most promising young hoopers in the country, regardless of graduation year. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: While many of us are spending summer watching the W and soaking up sunshine, elite high school hoopers are grinding through club basketball season—a crucial time in the recruiting cycle. This list from ESPN offers a glimpse at who’s next in the women’s basketball pipeline and who scouts and coaches will be watching closely all summer long.

3. Li Yueru Traded to Dallas After Request 🪽
Center Li Yueru got her wish over the weekend. The Seattle Storm traded her to the Dallas Wings in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and a 2027 third-rounder. (Dallas Wings)

WHY IT MATTERS: Trades happen, but this one’s unique. Reports suggest the Chinese Basketball Federation was involved in pushing for the move to ensure Li got more playing time. Since she’s missing national team duties to be in the W, they wanted her minutes to reflect that.
For Dallas, it’s hard to imagine giving up future draft picks when they’re struggling so much this season. But the Wings are on a seven-game losing streak, so the trade makes sense for them too: with Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsöder currently away for EuroBasket, Dallas needed help in the paint, and Li could be a strong addition.
OVERTIME ⏱️
