What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Cameron Brink Makes Her Return Tonight 🏀

Good news in LA: Cameron Brink is back. The LA Sparks announced she’ll make her season debut tonight against the Las Vegas Aces—her first game since tearing her ACL in June 2024. (ESPN)

📺 Watch her return: July 29 at 10:00 PM ET | NBA TV, League Pass

WHY IT MATTERS: With Brink back and healthy, the Sparks have a real shot at making a late push for the playoffs. The 2024 No. 2 overall pick was already a standout rim protector, averaging 2.3 blocks per game before her injury. And she knows how to win, having helped Stanford capture the 2021 NCAA title.

Even while sidelined, she’s remained a fan favorite thanks to her high-fashion style and growing media presence. Now, with LA on a five-game win streak and sitting just outside the playoff picture, her return could be just what the Sparks need.

2. Becky Hammon Reaches 100 Career Wins 🔥

Aces head coach Becky Hammon earned her 100th career WNBA win on Sunday as Las Vegas rolled past the Wings 106–80. (Las Vegas Aces)

WHY IT MATTERS: Hammon is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in WNBA history, and was named one of the league’s top 25 players of its first 25 years. After retiring in 2014, she quickly found success in coaching, leading the Aces to back-to-back championships in her first two seasons.

She’s now the third-fastest coach in league history to reach the 100-win mark. And it’s easy to forget: this is only her fourth season as a WNBA head coach. She’s just getting started.

3. Sky Waive Moriah Jefferson, Sign Sevgi Uzun in Surprise Move 😳

The Chicago Sky are making roster moves as they attempt to turn around their season. On Monday, the team announced they’ve waived veteran guard Moriah Jefferson and signed Turkish point guard Sevgi Uzun to a rest-of-season contract. (Chicago Sky)

WHY IT MATTERS: Jefferson’s career started strong: she won four NCAA titles at UConn, was the No. 2 overall WNBA draft pick in 2016, and made the All-Rookie team that same year. But a knee injury in 2017 interrupted her consistency in the pros.

Uzun most recently played for the Mercury, where she logged 11 points and 14 assists across seven appearances.

The Sky, currently sitting at 11th place with a 7–18 record, are clearly looking to shake things up. Swapping a vet like Jefferson for Uzun is a bold move as the team looks to salvage its playoff hopes.
