What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. March Madness Monday: Must-Watch Second Round Games 📺

If you’re stuck at work today, the Monday blues may turn into Monday FOMO. Today wraps up the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament with eight more high-stakes matchups, capping off 48 games in just four days.

📌 Notable games to watch:

  • Oklahoma (3) vs. Iowa (6) - 4 PM ET | ESPN

  • LSU (3) vs. Florida State (6) - 6 PM ET | ESPN

  • UConn (2) vs South Dakota State (10) - 8pm ET | ESPN

WHY IT MATTERS: The early rounds have traditionally been dominated by high seeds, and that trend continued with blowouts like South Carolina over Tennessee Tech (108–48) and UConn over Arkansas State (103–34).

But this year’s bracket has also delivered tight finishes and true March surprises. South Dakota State, fresh off their upset over Oklahoma State, now looks to test powerhouse UConn. Meanwhile, Oklahoma faces an Iowa team determined to prove they’re still a contender in the post-Caitlin Clark era. Expect even tighter games as we head deeper into the tournament.

2. All Good Things End: All-America Stars Wrap Up College Careers 😢

For several 2024-2025 AP All-Americans, March Madness is bittersweet, bringing an end to their high-performing college careers. This weekend saw the final college games for some of the nation’s top performers:

  1. Georgia Amoore, Kentucky (All-American 2nd Team)

  2. Harmoni Turner, Harvard (All-American Honorable Mention)

  3. Lauren Jensen, Creighton (All-American Honorable Mention)

WHY IT MATTERS: Success at the college level does not always translate to the WNBA, so for some players this could be the end of their careers. Georgia Amoore is projected to be a first round draft pick for the WNBA, but her 5’6” height will make it difficult to get open shots and defend larger opponents. At 5’10”, both Harmoni Turner and Lauren Jensen have a better size advantage on the wing, but will have to quickly adjust their games to earn roster spots in the highly competitive WNBA. 3. Kamilla Cardoso Wins International Player of the Year 🌍

Kamilla Cardoso, a center for the Dallas Wings, spent her offseason dominating overseas with the Shanghai Baoshan Dahua Swordfish—and was just named the 2025 Women’s Chinese Basketball Association International Player of the Year. (SB Nation)

WHY IT MATTERS: Cardoso posted monster numbers: 20.8 points per game on 64% shooting, plus 10.2 rebounds. She earned this prestigious honor while facing fellow WNBA stars like Chennedy Carter, Myisha Hines-Allen, and Kelsey Mitchell.

This award has a history of foreshadowing greatness: last year’s winner? Jonquel Jones, who went on to lead the New York Liberty to a WNBA title and was named Finals MVP.
