What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Fever to Face Lynx in Commissioner’s Cup Final 🏆
After high-stakes matchups on Tuesday night, the 2025 Commissioner’s Cup title game is officially locked in: the Indiana Fever will face the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, July 1, with a $500,000 prize pool on the line. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: This marks Indiana’s first-ever Cup title game appearance, and Minnesota’s second in a row. The Lynx are aiming to become the first team to win back-to-back Commissioner’s Cups, while the Fever are hoping to stake their claim as real contenders.
It’s also the first meeting between these two playoff-caliber teams this season. They weren’t originally scheduled to face off until August 22.

2. Gray and Thornton Named WNBA Players of the Week 🔥
The vets came to play last week. Eight-year vet Allisha Gray (Eastern) and 10-year vet Kayla Thornton (Western) have been named Players of the Week for their strong Week 4 performances. (WNBA)
Gray: 23.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG and 4.3 APG
Thornton: 20.0 PPG, 11.5 RPG and 1.0 APG
WHY IT MATTERS: This is Gray’s second weekly honor of the season. She’s been leading the charge for a revived Atlanta Dream squad that’s now 8–4, compared to 6–7 at this time last year.
For Thornton, this is her first career Player of the Week nod. After two seasons coming off the bench in New York, she’s now playing like an All-Star and quickly becoming the face of the expansion Golden State Valkyries.

3. FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Tips Off Today 🌍
One of FIBA’s premier events kicks off today. The FIBA Women’s EuroBasket tournament runs June 18–29, with Europe’s top national teams competing for Olympic and World Cup qualification. You can stream live games on Courtside 1891. (FIBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: EuroBasket is a key qualifier for international events like the FIBA World Cup and the Olympics, making it a can’t-miss tournament for European national teams. For the WNBA, it also means roster shake-ups.
Several WNBA players are temporarily away representing their countries, and four teams have been hit by absences: the Golden State Valkyries, the New York Liberty, Los Angeles Sparks, and the Dallas Wings. Coaches and players will be adjusting as the W continues through this two-week EuroBasket stretch.
