What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. MiLaysia Fulwiley Will Join LSU 🐯

Former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley has committed to LSU after two seasons playing for Dawn Staley and her hometown Gamecocks. (ESPN)

WHY IT MATTERS: Fulwiley’s move stunned the women’s college basketball world. A Columbia, SC native, she played a key role off the bench for South Carolina, providing explosive scoring and highlight-reel athleticism. Now, she’ll stay in the SEC but suit up for Kim Mulkey’s LSU Tigers, a squad already loaded with guard talent, including returning stars Mikaylah Williams and Flau’jae Johnson.

2. Rookies Turn Pro as WNBA Teams Open 2025 Training Camp 🌟

The 2025 WNBA season is officially underway. Training camps opened across the league on Sunday, with this year’s rookie class making the quick transition from college to professional players.

WHY IT MATTERS: Teams have just a few short weeks to install their systems, build chemistry, and trim rosters from 18 down to 11 or 12 players before Opening Day on May 16. For rookies, the margin for error is razor-thin—earning a roster spot means proving their value almost immediately.

Many teams shared highlights from Day 1, giving us a first glimpse of top draft picks like Paige Bueckers (Dallas Wings), Sonia Citron and Lucy Olsen (Washington Mystics), Hailey Van Lith (Chicago Sky), and Aneesah Morrow and Saniya Rivers (Connecticut Sun).

3. Two Top Draft Picks Missing From WNBA Training Camp đŸ˜©

While most rookies hit the floor this weekend, a few big names were missing. No. 2 overall pick Dominique Malonga (Seattle Storm) and No. 5 pick Justė Jocytė (Golden State Valkyries) were both absent as teams kicked off 2025 training camp on Sunday. (ESPN)

WHY IT MATTERS: Both Malonga (France) and Jocytė (Lithuania) are international players, which gives them more flexibility under the WNBA’s prioritization rules. Unlike veteran players, rookies with fewer than three years of WNBA experience aren’t required to report by the start of training camp.

Malonga just wrapped up her season with ASVEL in France and is expected to take a short break before joining the Storm. Jocytė’s situation is more complicated—she’s committed to playing for Lithuania’s national team at EuroBasket in June and may not join the Valkyries until midseason... if at all.
