What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Paige Bueckers Ties Cynthia Cooper’s 22-Game Record 🏀

Paige Bueckers just tied WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper for the fewest games needed to reach 400 points and 100 assists—just 22. Bueckers tallied 21 points and 7 assists in the Wings’ loss to the Dream on Wednesday. (CT Insider)

WHY IT MATTERS: Bueckers is showing she’s a special talent early in her professional career. Cooper is one of the greatest to ever do it—4x WNBA champ, 4x Finals MVP, 4x All-WNBA. To match her production this early is no small feat.

Bueckers also passed Sue Bird (10) for second-most rookie games with 15+ points and 5+ assists. The only player ahead is Caitlin Clark (30).

2. Maddy Siegrist Returns Today for the Wings 💪

After missing 17 games with a knee fracture, second-year forward Maddy Siegrist is suiting up for the Dallas Wings today. In her return, the team waived Grace Berger, who just completed her second 7-day hardship contract. (Dallas Wings)

WHY IT MATTERS: The Wings could use a spark, currently sitting 11th in the standings with an 8–20 record. Siegrist was putting up 9.4 points and 5.2 boards per game before her injury and was among the league’s top offensive rebounders. Siegrist is also the reigning Athletes Unlimited champion. With the playoff race heating up, her return could help the Wings gain momentum at just the right time.

3. WNBA Trade Deadline is 1 Week Away 🔁

The WNBA trade deadline hits next Wednesday, August 7 at 3:00 PM ET. After that, trades are off the table until the offseason. (WNBA)

WHY IT MATTERS: At the trade deadline, we’ll be 70% through the season, and the standings are tight. While the WNBA trade deadline hasn’t historically brought big shakeups, this year could be different. We may see playoff bubble teams get aggressive to make one last push, or championship hopefuls add depth for their postseason run.
