Portland’s WNBA expansion franchise, set to begin play in 2026, officially broke ground Tuesday on a new $150 million performance center it will share with the NWSL’s Portland Thorns. The 63,000-square-foot facility will be located in Hillsboro, just west of Portland, and packed with state-of-the-art amenities—including recovery lounges, red-light therapy rooms, active recovery pools, and hyperbaric chambers. WHY IT MATTERS: This project is the first of its kind: a high-performance, purpose-built facility shared by two professional women’s sports teams across different leagues. 3. 6’6” Madina Okot Commits to South Carolina 🐔

Mississippi State transfer Madina Okot has officially committed to Dawn Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. (Gamecocks Online)

WHY IT MATTERS: This is a massive addition for South Carolina. At 6'6", Okot gives the Gamecocks a dominant interior presence—something the program had grown accustomed to with stars like A’ja Wilson, Aliyah Boston, and Kamilla Cardoso.

Okot averaged 11.3 points and a team-best 9.6 rebounds last season as Mississippi State’s starting center, and now joins what is shaping up to be one of the most dangerous transfer classes in the country. She’s the second major portal win for Staley, who previously landed NCAA leading scorer Ta'Niya Latson from Florida State.
