What To Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Serena Williams Joins Toronto Tempo Ownership Group 🇨🇦
The Toronto Tempo, the WNBA expansion team joining the league in 2026, just added a sports icon to its ownership group. Twenty-three-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is investing in the team alongside Kilmer Sports Ventures, led by Larry Tanenbaum. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: Williams, a tennis icon and one of the greatest athletes of all time, is a long-time vocal advocate for women’s sports, recognizing both their cultural significance and financial potential. Already an investor in Angel City FC (NWSL), she continues to expand her impact across women’s sports. She’s expected to play an active role in shaping the Toronto team’s branding, including jersey design and merchandise partnerships.

2. Tamika Catchings To Enter The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame 🤠
Four-time All-American and 10-time WNBA All-Star Tamika Catchings is adding another prestigious honor to her legendary career—induction into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. She was named to the 2025 class and will be formally inducted later this year in Nashville. (UT Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: Catchings was a cornerstone of Pat Summitt’s Tennessee dynasty from 1997 to 2001, leading the Lady Vols to an undefeated 1997–98 national championship season. She went on to win Naismith College Player of the Year in 2000 before being drafted third overall by the WNBA’s Indiana Fever in 2001. A 2020 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee, Catchings now earns another well-deserved honor, securing her legacy among Tennessee’s greatest athletes.

3. Aneesah Morrow Joins Exclusive Double-Double Club 👯
LSU forward Aneesah Morrow has done something only one other women’s player has done at the NCAA Division I level. Morrow recorded her 100th career double-double in LSU’s loss to Ole Miss, and is only the second player in history to reach the milestone. The other player? Two-time WNBA rebounding champion and former Oklahoma Sooner Courtney Paris. (LSU Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: Morrow, affectionately known by fans as “Nees Tha Beast” has been on a tear in the paint all season long. Sunday’s performance marked her 26th double-double this year, as she continues to dominate with 18.2 PPG and 14 RPG. Despite LSU’s loss to Ole Miss, her presence makes the Tigers a serious threat heading into the NCAA tournament.
