What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. Team USA Set for 3x3 AmeriCup Action 🇺🇸

The U.S. heads to León, Mexico this weekend for the 2025 FIBA 3x3 AmeriCup, with pool play beginning Friday. Team USA will face Brazil at 3:50 PM ET and Jamaica at 7:30 PM ET. All games will stream live on YouTube.

WHY IT MATTERS: This is the fifth edition of the premier 3x3 competition in the Americas, and Team USA has medaled every single year, including silver in 2024. This year’s squad, with Allisha Gray, Naz Hillmon, Shakira Austin, and Veronica Burton gives the U.S. a strong shot to reaffirm its dominance in the fast-growing 3x3 format.

2. Elle Duncan Reportedly Set to Lead Netflix Sports 📺

The “Big Three” of ESPN’s women’s basketball coverage may be no more. Elle Duncan is finalizing a deal that would make her the key face of Netflix’s expanding sports division, and she’s expected to step away from her ESPN women’s basketball duties after this year. (Sports Illustrated)

WHY IT MATTERS: Duncan, alongside Andraya Carter and Chiney Ogwumike, forms one of the most beloved trios in women’s basketball media. The three have become one of ESPN’s most popular broadcasting teams, and a group instantly recognizable to women’s hoops fans. With Duncan shifting to Netflix, which currently doesn’t cover women’s basketball, the sport stands to lose one of its most popular voices. Here’s hoping she somehow stays connected to the game.

3. Small School, Big Upset 😲

In an incredible Texas high school matchup, Gordon, a girls team from a school with just 75 students, defeated Plano West, one of the largest schools in the state with more than 5,300 students.

WHY IT MATTERS: This one’s pure joy for underdog fans. On paper, the matchup looked impossible — a tiny Class 1A school knocking off a Class 6A powerhouse. But wins like this remind us why we love the game, and that heart can go a long way.
