What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Aces Sweep Mercury, Win 2025 WNBA Title 🏆
The Las Vegas Aces completed a four-game sweep of the Phoenix Mercury to capture their third championship in four seasons. A’ja Wilson dropped 31 points in Game 4 and claimed her second Finals MVP in three years. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: Dynasty confirmed. This Aces squad just made history, not only sweeping the league’s first best-of-seven Finals but also becoming the first in WNBA history to come from a losing record through 25 games. ESPN reports this was the most-viewed WNBA Finals through three games in 25 years.

2. Wilson & Collier Lead Unanimous All-WNBA First Team ✨
A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier led the 2025 All-WNBA First Team, each receiving every available first-place vote. They were joined by Alyssa Thomas, Allisha Gray, and Kelsey Mitchell. The Second Team included Nneka Ogwumike, Jackie Young, Sabrina Ionescu, Aliyah Boston, and Paige Bueckers. (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: The All-WNBA honors celebrate the best players of the season. It’s Wilson’s sixth straight First Team nod, while Bueckers became just the 12th rookie in 25 years to earn the honor. The selections are voted on by 72 sportswriters and broadcasters.

3. Now, a Wild WNBA Offseason 🌪️
With the new champions crowned, attention turns to what’s expected to be the most unpredictable offseason ever. In the coming months, the WNBA’s next Collective Bargaining Agreement must be finalized, Portland and Toronto join as expansion teams, and over 100 players are about to hit free agency. (The Athletic)
WHY IT MATTERS: Only 41 players are under contract for 2026, meaning front offices will have their work cut out for them once the new CBA is in place. Expansion also shakes things up, bringing 24 new roster spots, an expansion draft, and tough choices about who to protect. Mix in U.S.-based offseason leagues like Unrivaled and Athletes Unlimited, and the next few months promise a whirlwind of activity for the pros.
