What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. The Las Vegas Aces Clinch Playoff Berth🔒

The 2022 and 2023 champs are in. With Monday’s win over Chicago, the Las Vegas Aces secured their spot in the 2025 playoffs. (CBS Sports)

WHY IT MATTERS: This is a team that completely flipped the switch. A month ago, Vegas was hovering at .500 and coming off an embarrassing 53-point loss to Minnesota. Since then, they’ve put up 11 straight wins, pushing their record to 25-14. They’re now the second team to clinch a playoff berth, right behind the Lynx. Only six spots remain.

2. Kelsey Mitchell Becomes Fever’s Single-Season Scoring Leader 👑

The Indiana Fever have a new single-season scoring leader. Kelsey Mitchell now holds the franchise record, breaking Caitlin Clark’s mark of 769. In Tuesday’s dominant win over Seattle, Mitchell climbed to 787 points with six regular-season games still to play. (Yahoo Sports)

WHY IT MATTERS: Since being drafted No. 2 overall in 2018, Mitchell has quietly built herself into one of the league’s most reliable scorers. From 12.7 points and 2.7 assists per game as a rookie to three All-Star appearances, she’s now not only leading the Fever but also pushing herself into a viable MVP candidate.

3. Stewie Returns, Drops 19 in First Game Back 🙌

Happy birthday, Stewie. After missing a month with a knee injury, Breanna Stewart returned on Monday and immediately made her park, putting up 19 points in just 21 minutes during New York’s win over Connecticut. (ESPN)

WHY IT MATTERS: If the Liberty want another title, they’ll need their two-time MVP healthy and available. Stewart showed no signs of rust, adding 5 rebounds and a block alongside her 19 points. She continues to rank among the league’s most efficient players (23.0 Player Efficiency Rating) and achieved the goal she had set for herself—suiting up before her birthday, August 27.
