What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Tina Charles Becomes All-Time FG Leader 🪣
Tina Charles just passed Diana Taurasi to claim the record for the most field goals made in WNBA history (3,347). She already sits second in career points and first in rebounds. Now she’s added another record to her resume. (Sports Illustrated)
WHY IT MATTERS: Charles has long been one of the most underappreciated greats in women’s hoops. Taurasi set her mark of 3,341 made field goals in 565 games, while Charles surpassed that in just her 470th — a testament to her scoring efficiency. This milestone only reinforces what her career has already proven: she belongs in every conversation about the league’s all-time best.

2. WNBL Levels Up Ahead of New Season 🇦🇺
Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) just announced some major updates ahead of the 2025-26 season:
All games will be free to stream for the first time ever, on a new WNBL app
Sparks forward Alissa Pili will suit up for the Geelong Venom this season
Expansion is on the way, with Tasmania joining as the 9th team in 2026-27 and a 10th franchise search underway
WHY IT MATTERS: Entering its fourth decade, the WNBL has been a launchpad for top women’s basketball talent, including WNBA stars. More streaming access means more visibility, while expansion adds depth to one of the strongest international women’s basketball leagues. The U.S. isn’t the only place where the game is building momentum.
The WNBL runs October through February.

3. WNBA Crowns August’s Bests 👏
The WNBA on Wednesday handed out its monthly awards for August.
Players of the Month: Allisha Gray (Dream) and A’ja Wilson (Aces). Gray, averaging 19.4 points and nearly 5 boards, became the first guard in league history to win the award three times in one season. Wilson, meanwhile, claimed her 13th career monthly honor while putting up 25.5 points, 11.8 rebounds, and making history with the league’s first-ever 30/20 game.
Rookie of the Month: Paige Bueckers (Wings) after averaging 20.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Coach of the Month: Becky Hammon (Aces), whose team ripped off 12 straight wins in August to climb from 8th to 2nd in the standings.
WHY IT MATTERS: These monthly honors are a snapshot of who’s dominating right now. Gray continues to have her best season and prove she’s an elite guard, Wilson delivered an MVP-caliber month, Bueckers is showing why she could be a franchise changer, and Hammon has the Aces looking scary again just in time for the playoffs.
