What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Her Hoop Stats Drops Their 2025 WNBA Player Rankings 📊
You’ve seen ESPN’s preseason list of the top WNBA players for 2025, and now it’s Her Hoop Stats’ turn. The go-to website for women's basketball statistics has released its own player rankings.
Reigning MVP A’ja Wilson claims the No. 1 spot on both lists, but there are some key differences in how the two media outlets shaped their top five.
WHY IT MATTERS: As women’s basketball has grown, so has the media coverage. While major players like ESPN bring national spotlight, niche organizations like Her Hoop Stats dive deeper into player performance through advanced analytics and fresh perspective. Lists like these don’t determine wins or losses, but they do spark passionate debates and deepen fan connection to the league and its players.

The 2025 WNBA regular season tips off Friday, and it’s shaping up to be the league’s biggest season yet. After a historic 2024 season, the anticipation for this year is through the roof.

2. LSU Lands Another 4-Star Recruit ⭐️
Something big is brewing in Baton Rouge. LSU has officially signed 6'2" four-star forward Meghan Yarnevich, a Top 100 recruit out of Maryland. Yarnevich had originally committed to Georgia but flipped to LSU, making the announcement on Tuesday. (LSU Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: Yarnevich becomes the fifth Top 100 freshman for LSU in what’s already the No. 1 recruiting class for the 2025–26 season. She joins Grace Knox, ZaKiyah Johnson, Divine Bourrage, and Bella Hines.
This class, along with South Carolina transfer MiLaysia Fulwiley and returners Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams, should make Kim Mulkey’s Tigers an exciting team to watch next season.

3. Paige Bueckers Enters Unique Partnership with DoorDash 🍕
Paige Bueckers has a new gig, and it doesn’t take place on the court. DoorDash announced that the rookie guard will serve as the company’s Creative Director for the 2025 and 2026 WNBA seasons. First up: a limited-edition t-shirt Bueckers co-designed with DoorDash and Playa Society. (Doordash)
WHY IT MATTERS: Bueckers is the first athlete to take on a creative director role with DoorDash. While her job responsibilities are not likely to be quite the same as a typical creative director (no disrespect to Paige’s design skills), this partnership is an example of an athlete stepping into the brand world with real influence. This is a fun approach that not only benefits DoorDash and Playa Society, but also helps Bueckers elevate her own status as a professional athlete.
👕 The shirt will be available exclusively on playasociety.com from May 16 at 10 AM ET through May 18.
