What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. All-Star Weekend Is Here 🌟
The WNBA All-Star festivities officially tip off tonight! Here's the full schedule:
Friday, July 18th: 3-Point Contest & Skills Challenge, 8:00 PM ET | ESPN
Saturday, July 19: All-Star Game, 8:30 PM ET | ABC, Disney+ and ESPN+
WHY IT MATTERS: WNBA All-Star Weekend is a celebration of everything that makes the league special. For players, it’s a chance to connect, unwind, and compete in a more relaxed (but still elite) setting. For non-All-Stars, it’s a well-earned midseason breather before diving into the second half of the season. But for fans, it’s a rare opportunity to see the league’s biggest stars having fun together, showing off their personalities, and competing in creative ways you won’t find during the regular season.

2. Clark and Sabally Are Out, Sykes and Jones Are In 🔁
Just days before the big game, the All-Star rosters are changing. Caitlin Clark and Satou Sabally have withdrawn due to injuries, opening up spots for Brittney Sykes (Washington Mystics) and Brionna Jones (Atlanta Dream). (WNBA)
WHY IT MATTERS: Clark’s absence is especially notable, as she was set to headline both the All-Star Game as captain and the 3-Point Contest in front of her home crowd in Indy. But we’re still in for a great show. Sabrina Ionescu, Allisha Gray, Kelsey Plum, and rookie Sonia Citron are still ready to light it up from deep.
Sykes and Jones were both considered All-Star snubs by many fans earlier this month, so their additions feel like well-earned corrections. Sykes leads the Mystics in both scoring (17.1 PPG) and assists (4.4 APG), while Jones—making her fourth All-Star appearance—ranks 5th in the league in rebounds (7.8 RPG) and anchors the paint for Atlanta.

3. No Progress Yet from In-Person CBA Meeting 😐
The highly anticipated in-person CBA talks held Thursday in Indianapolis ended with… not much to report. According to Front Office Sports, no follow-up meetings are currently scheduled, and no significant updates were shared publicly by either side. (Front Office Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: The players are looking to capitalize on the growing league with a keen focus on revenue sharing. Over 40 players showed up to the meeting, the largest player turnout for CBA talks in WNBPA history, signaling just how united they are.
With a little over 100 days left until the current CBA expires, the clock is ticking. And if talks stall, a player work stoppage isn’t off the table.
