What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Lynx Hold Off Liberty in 2024 WNBA Finals Rematch 🍿
It took two months for the rematch, but it was worth the wait. The Minnesota Lynx beat the New York Liberty 100–93 on Wednesday night in a showdown of the league’s top two teams. Napheesa Collier notched her 5th 30-point game of the season to lead the Lynx. (Bleacher Report)
WHY IT MATTERS: Last year’s WNBA Finals between the Lynx and Liberty went the distance: five games, huge swings, and a controversial late foul that sent Stewie to the line for the win. So yes, this one had energy.
They also continue to be two of the best teams in the league: the Lynx now sit at number one in the standings with a 22–5 record, while the Liberty are right behind at 17–8.
It’s important to note that the Liberty were without Stewart on Wednesday, who missed her second straight game with a knee injury (more on this below), as well as 6th Player of the Year candidate Kennedy Burke and valuable role player, Nyara Sabally.

2. Breanna Stewart Could Be Out for Weeks 😔
New York Liberty coach Sandy Brondello announced on Wednesday that Breanna Stewart’s knee injury is a bone bruise that could keep her out for weeks. Stewart missed her second straight game Wednesday night. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: It’s hard to overstate Stewart’s importance to the Liberty and their hopes at a 2025 title run. A two-time MVP, she’s averaged 20.6 points and 8.5 rebounds over her nine-season career and remains the centerpiece of the team. Brondello didn’t give a firm return date, saying they’re keeping the “big picture” in mind.

3. WNBA Viewership Is Way Up 📈
Through 56 games so far this season, the WNBA is averaging 794,000 viewers across all national networks—up 21% from last season’s average. (Front Office Sports)
WHY IT MATTERS: It’s not just Caitlin Clark. While Fever games are leading the way with 1.26 million average viewers (up 7%), the biggest growth has come from the rest of the league. Non-Fever games average 549,000 viewers (up 37%).
