What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. WNBA Players Offered $2M+ by New International League 🌍

Project B, the new international women’s basketball league, continues to turn heads. Just days after Nneka Ogwumike became its first signee, journalists are reporting that several WNBA players have already inked deals, with others being offered seven-figure salaries starting at $2 million annually, in addition to equity. (Front Office Sports)

WHY IT MATTERS: For context, the WNBA’s current max salary under the expired CBA is $252,450. Project B’s model could upend the pro basketball landscape if it attracts top talent. The league’s season won’t directly overlap with the WNBA calendar, but with collective bargaining negotiations looming, the question now is whether some stars might choose to sit out a WNBA season for the kind of money being offered abroad.

2. The WNBA’s Digital Growth Is Off the Charts 📈

The WNBA hit historic highs on social media in 2025, according to the new STN Digital x Zoomph WNBA Social Rankings Report. (Forbes)

Some highlights:

  • The Indiana Fever led all teams with over $55 million in Social Value, 1.17 billion impressions, and 38.7 million engagements.

  • The Dallas Wings saw the biggest year-over-year jump, boosting engagement by 505% and impressions by 251%.

  • Static photo posts outperformed video nearly 2x on X and Facebook, while WNBA-NBA crossover content ruled Instagram.

WHY IT MATTERS: This data proves women’s basketball is exploding online. It’s no coincidence that the Fever and Wings, home to Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers, top the list. Fans are clearly enjoying both the on-court action and the off-court storytelling.

3. JuJu Watkins Joins NWSL Ownership Group ⚽️

USC star JuJu Watkins just added a new role to her resume: investor. The 20-year-old junior guard is part of the new ownership group for Boston Legacy FC, the NWSL’s newest expansion team. (Boston Legacy)

WHY IT MATTERS: Watkins is now one of the youngest investors in women’s professional sports, and she’s still in college. Her move is the latest example of women’s basketball players expanding their influence, this time investing in the growth of women’s sports as a whole.
