What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today

1. A’ja Wilson and Allisha Gray Named WNBA Players of the Week ⭐️

The WNBA announced its Week 2 Players of the Week. (WNBA)

  • A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces was named Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks.

  • Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week after averaging 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.

WHY IT MATTERS: Wilson continues to be a force, leading the Aces to a 2-0 week and bringing their record to 4-2. It’s her 23rd Player of the Week award in her career. For Gray, this is a career-first. Now in her 8th season, she broke through with a well-earned nod after helping the Dream go 2-0 and climb to fourth in the standings at 5-2.

2. Rickea Jackson Returns to the Sparks 💪

After missing two weeks due to concussion protocol and personal reasons, Rickea Jackson returned to practice with the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday. She is expected to play in Friday night’s game against Dallas. (Anthony De Leon)

WHY IT MATTERS: There was concern around Jackson’s absence, but the No. 4 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft looks ready to return. She’s averaging 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in 23 minutes per game, and the Sparks, who are currently 2-6, could use her spark (pun intended) on both ends of the floor.

3. Megan McConnell Joins the Mercury—and Makes WNBA Debut ✍️

Former Duquesne standout Megan McConnell officially signed with the Phoenix Mercury and made her debut on Tuesday against the Lynx. Her brother, T.J. McConnell, is set to play in his first NBA Finals with the Indiana Pacers on Friday. (Phoenix Mercury)

WHY IT MATTERS: The WNBA just added another sibling duo to the pro hoops world. Megan, who went undrafted in April but impressed during Mercury camp, scored 3 points and dished 3 assists in 13 minutes before exiting with a knee injury. In her final season at Duquesne, she averaged 18.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 4.1 steals per game.
