What to Know About Women’s Basketball Today
1. Big Moves Ahead of Trade Deadline This Week 🔁
The WNBA trade deadline is Thursday, and teams are already making major moves. One of the biggest came over the weekend:
Minnesota Lynx acquired DiJonai Carrington from Dallas
Dallas Wings acquired Karlie Samuelson, Diamond Miller, and the Lynx’s 2027 second-round draft pick
Dallas Wings waived Teaira McCowan
Los Angeles Sparks signed Alissa Pili to a 7-Day Contract
Indiana Fever signed Chloe Bibby to a Rest-of-Season Contract
Golden State Valkyries signed Kaila Charles to a 7-Day Contract
WHY IT MATTERS: The Dallas trade is a jaw-dropper. Carrington—2024’s Most Improved Player—was seen as a key piece in Dallas’ rebuild around Paige Bueckers. Instead, she’s headed to the #1-seeded Lynx, adding even more firepower to an already title-ready team. Dallas, meanwhile, looks like it’s pivoting to another rebuild. With Carrington gone and McCowan waived, their 2025 playoff hopes are fading fast.

2. Connecticut Sun Could Relocate to Boston ☀️ ➡️ 🍀
A big franchise move could be reality soon. The Boston Globe reported that Celtics minority owner Steve Pagliuca had reached a deal to buy the Connecticut Sun for $325 million and relocate them to Boston. (Boston.com)
WHY IT MATTERS: This would be the largest sale ever for a women’s sports team and the first WNBA franchise in Boston. While the sale isn’t final, the Mohegan Tribe (the current Sun owners) announced earlier this year they are exploring a sale of the team. If the sale to Pagliuca does happen, a move is not a given—the WNBA Board of Governors must approve any franchise relocation. But momentum is building: the Sun have sold out both of their recent games at Boston’s TD Garden, drawing over 19,000 fans each game.

3. Napheesa Collier Injured in Lynx Blowout Win 😬
On Saturday, the Minnesota Lynx made history with a 111–58 win over the Las Vegas Aces, marking the largest road win in league history. But the victory came at a price: Napheesa Collier went down in the 3rd quarter with a right ankle injury. (ESPN)
WHY IT MATTERS: Collier is having the best season of her career, leading the Lynx with 23.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and average minutes played. She is also the leading MVP candidate this year and the heart of the Minnesota team.
There’s no official word yet on the severity of her injury, but if she misses significant time, it could seriously impact the Lynx’s title hopes and Collier’s shot at the MVP.
